1. Module Checklists
Below you will find the checklist that corresponds to our current Math Module. By the end of the unit, your child should master all the statements on the checklist. This year, we have taken the standards and converted them to “I can” statements. We hope that this shift will provide the students with a greater sense of ownership and reflectivity.
Module 3: Multiplication and Area
Module 2: Multiplication and Division
Module 1: Number Sense to 10,000 Addition and Subtraction
2. Fluency Benchmarks
Third grade students are given Fluency Assessments four times during the school year. These assessments measure our students’ automaticity with regard to addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. Though fact memorization and speed may seem antiquated, fact fluency is an important component in problem solving. When students are fluent, they are able to solve problems mentally. They are able to see patterns within numbers and use their knowledge of facts and place value to solve more complicated problems. HOWEVER, despite the importance of fluency students MUST be able to show their mental processes in writing, thoughtfully, when need be.
